What is the measuring distance of the gas detector?

2024-09-14

The measuring distance of the gas detector does not have a fixed standard value, but is affected by a combination of factors. Different types of detectors (such as portable, fixed) and performance parameters such as the sensitivity and response speed of their sensors will also affect the effective measuring distance. So what is the measuring distance of the gas detector?

Gas detector measuring distance:

1. Portable gas detector measuring distance

For portable gas detectors, in open spaces, it is usually recommended to keep the probe about 10 to 30 cm away from the detection point in order to obtain gas concentration information more accurately.

However, if it is in a narrow, poorly ventilated space, such as inside a pipe or a small closed container, it may be necessary to directly contact the probe with the detection surface or a closer distance of about 5 to 10 cm.

2. Fixed gas detector measuring distance

For fixed gas detectors, the installation position and measuring distance are designed according to the specific environment and gas diffusion characteristics.

For example, if a detector for detecting gases lighter than air (such as methane) is installed under the ceiling of a workshop, its effective measurement range may cover an area with a radius of 5 to 8 meters below.

And the detector for detecting gases heavier than air (such as propane) is installed close to the ground, and the effective measurement range may be about 3 to 5 meters in the horizontal direction.

In addition, factors such as airflow and temperature in the detection environment will also affect the diffusion of the gas, thereby indirectly affecting the measurement distance.

For example, in an environment with strong airflow, the gas may be blown away quickly, and it is necessary to get closer to the possible leakage source for detection.

The above measurement distance of the gas detector is shared here. As an instrument tool for gas leakage concentration detection, the gas detector is widely used for on-site detection in petrochemical, coal, metallurgy, chemical, municipal gas, environmental monitoring and other places.
